St Mary's Youth Group
An important part of ministry at St Mary’s Haverhill is looking for ways to support people in their faith, whether they are new to a faith life or have been Christian for many years. We saw that there was a need for spiritual space for our teenagers and so Youth Group was begun in September. Led by the Revd Cat Cox, curate, and The Children and Families Team, we meet monthly taking part in different social activities and a short prayer time. A firm favourite was recycled crazy-golf – every person created a crazy golf hole from recycling which we then played!
December saw us enjoying movie night, where we rearranged the nave into a cinema and, complete with onesies or Christmas pajamas, by unanimous vote watched Nativity. Of course, this had to be accompanied by pizza and popcorn!
Cat said “It is exciting to spend time with the future leaders of our church and to see the Spirit moving in the lives of our young adults.” “It’s good to meet up once a month and spend time together and I am looking forward to cooking for everyone,” said Caiden (15), one of the group members.
Over the coming months Youth Group will continue to socialise together monthly but also plans to develop a worship time together, which will eventually be led and further developed by the group members. It’s an exciting time to watch the developing faith of special people.
