Wild for Wildlife Workshop

04 October 2025 10:00

On Saturday 4th October, we were pleased to welcome local priest and author, the Revd Dr Karen Smith, to lead 'Wild for Wildlife', an eco-workshop for children using her new book, Abbey and Eddie Visit Bugingham Palace. Children were able to hear her read her book and find out what sister and brother, Abbey and Eddie, see when they explore the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds. They then made their own bug hotels to provide somewhere for some of God's smallest creatures to stay -- and took them home to place in their garden.

You can find out more about Karen and her book online, including details of how to buy copies or to book Karen to visit your school or community organisation. As well as encouraging children to think about their stewardship of the environment and promoting ecological responsibility, the project is part of the St Edmundsbury Abbey Heritage Project, which you can find more about online.

Both of our churches have recently earned their bronze award as eco-chuches with A Rocha UK, and are looking at what more we can do to care for the natural world. Welcoming Karen was another way to help people think about this important aspect of our faith and life.

Karen says that there are more adventures awaiting Abbey and Eddie, so look out for more books and workshops in the near future!
