Quiet Afternoon: Margery Kempe
We are hosting a quiet afternoon at Withersfield on Saturday 3rd June with professional bray harpist and musicologist Leah Stuttard, whose research into the life, writings and music of Margery Kempe offers a unique perspective on pilgrimage and song. Join us for all or part of the afternoon, which includes a workshop on singing for wellbeing and a concert of music from the places Margery knew and visited.
2pm: Chant! Workshop on singing for wellbeing, using physical exercises from Qi Gong and Tai Chi, breathing and singing techniques, and mediaeval chants used by Christian pilgrims.
3pm: Free time to explore the beautiful church and village of Withersfield, located on the new pilgrimage route from London to Walsingham.
4.30pm: Evening Prayer, followed by refreshments.
5.30pm: Concert of readings from the book of Margery Kempe and music from the places she visited including Rome, Santiago de Compostela, Gdansk, Norway, Jerusalem, Canterbury and Walsingham.
